Hello!

This is just a quick little reminder about social on Tuesday evening, if you've not spotted the invite via e-mail previously then you can some of the details below but also you can find all of the details on Meetup too...

https://www.meetup.com/staffslug/events/297839365/

As a reminder, this is a privately hired room so it'll be just for us and we get the use of all the bowling lanes, all evening, for free!

The venue has provided rough details of what hot food, snacks, and drinks (soft or alcoholic) is available and I've added it to a page here if you're curious... click here

A reminder that this event is co-hosted between Free Software Foundation Potteries (FSFE Potteries), Staffordshire Linux User Group (StaffsLUG), and Open Rights Group Stoke-on-Trent (ORG Stoke).

We're now estimated to have around 25 people going from across the three groups, so it's not too late if you want to come.

But you really must RSVP if you are intending to come.  If you've only (so far) declared that you might, or that it's a possibility, then I won't have you down as coming at all!  You can RSVP by just replying to this email or using the Meetup website.

p.s. I've also added some photos of the room to the event... you'll find there is plenty of seating space available too should you just wish to socialise and not bowl (as not everyone can at once anyway, it's 6 people to a lane and there are only 4 lanes).

Thanks

New social meeting for your calendar! (and hopefully a new annual tradition)

We're calling this "Flörgåsbord" and it'll be on Tuesday 19th December from 6:30pm onwards (so the usual schedule for LUG meetings)

Stuff to know...

The room - We've booked a private room for this event, in the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme, that hold up to 40 people (which we're very unlikely to fill anyway) from 6:30pm onwards until closing... it's upstairs from the Vue cinema and we'll provide directions.

There's 4 full sized bowling lanes - These lanes are ours for the whole evening for unlimited free play, 6 people at most to a lane.

It's a social - Just like any of our past socials, there will be places to sit and just chat (no loud music!).  Not everyone will be bowling anyway, so don't feel like you have to.  We would normally have our "End of Year Activities" workshop at this time of the year anyway... so think of it like that.

There is food and drinks - The venue has a new kitchen serving hot food (so no need to eat before coming out) as well as offering drinks... we'll send out details of what kind of food and drinks shortly.

Open to all in the LUG, ORG, and FSF - So a great mix of people in one social... but you're also welcome to bring friends and family too.  The only thing we ask is that you give us an idea on if you're coming as we need to be sure it'll be under 40 people (which it surely will be... so don't feel like you need to keep a slot open for someone else... come along!).

It's a veritable Flörgåsbord! - We were trying to merge the acronyms FSF/LUG/ORG and got "Florg" which got compared to the word Smörgåsbord (a Swedish buffet) and so we made it Flörgåsbord instead (as a buffet of local technology groups!).

It's FREE - We're pickup up the bill, it's an incredibly small bill anyway (we're familiar with the management) and so don't worry about it.

Making up for lost time - With the confusion over the workshop room this year, it's good to get back on track again with a meeting... there wasn't any reason we couldn't have had a social earlier really... it's just that a lot of us were so busy packing things up that it slipped our minds.

We're copying WolvesLUG - Yeah I'll admit that I got the idea from seeing them do a Christmas meal every year... so we can do better than that!

So...

I'll send more details shortly including directions, parking, food, drinks, etc... we'll also put this out on the website and socials (including meetup.com) with photos shortly.

Please DO reply... and tell me if you're free and coming... I need to see replies to this.
