Re: [Staffslug] Can't access cdrom
by Mark Leese
Hi Stuart,
Actually not as bad as it looks ;)
Try sticking in a normal data CD and doing the mount. It will probably
work. Audio CD's are in a different format.
If you can get a data CD to work and you can access the files on it, then
there is probably some other problem with the audio side. This will take
some more trouble shooting.
Does the audio CD work in a HIFI or under Windows?
Thanks,
Mark.
Let me know the outcome.

Can't access cdrom
by stuart bell
Hello the Experts,
I have now installed PCLinuxOS on my old laptop, the first time i did
it all was fine but i made such a mess of getting the broadcom pcmcia
wifi to work that i ended up doing a reinstall!
Since then i can't access the cdrom. If i put in an audio cd it spins
and is detected by kcd or kaffeine will display a list of tracks so
i'm sure the drive is ok- anyway i just used it for the install.
I get a message about checking permissions or no media inserted.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Stuart.

meeting
by Frank & Jenny
I have checked and if you want to change the venue of the meeting, we could hold it
at the George and Dragon at Meaford Stone on the A34. map ref. SJ 887353.
The pub is also a restaurant, so you will have to eat your takeaways or sandwiches
before you go in. There is a chip shop on the A34 and 4 takeaways within 30 metres in Stone.
If you decide to go I willl do maps. You will have to put up with laptops at the first meeting,
but talking about future meetings and meeting new members could be important.
I am also President of Stoke-on-Trent Association of Engineers and the Reginald Mitchell
memorial lecture is on Thursday 19th October at the Forum Theatre, The Potteries Museum
and Art Gallery, Hanley, S-O-T. Subject "Beagle 2 and Beyond" presented by Prof. Colin Pillinger
You are all invited, no need for tickets, they are free. Unfortunately I will be entertaining the Lord Mayor
all evening, but will get away if I can.
Cheers, Frank

Meeting
by Frank & Jenny
>From Frank Beech.
" well i think we have a day for the meeting. a good one too :) October
31st, its a tuesday :) will meet around 7-7.30 say at the Picture House,
Stafford. Unless anyone has another venue in mind that is"
I cannot understand after the disaster of the last meeting you can consider the
Picture House. Where you will not be able to find a table or chairs for two never mind a dozen!
You will have to shout all night and no one will hear you, I went to the last meeting and
could not find anyone, a complete waste of time, I will not go there again. The arrangement may suit the six of you who know each other but what about the other 81 members.
There are lots of pubs with nice corners were you canh hold a non shouting meeting
(without Larger louts interupting) that sell good beer and lots of takeaways for you to enjoy
before or after wards.
Let me know the day and I will fix it in November.
Cheers Frank.
PS. I was in a Commaodore group many years ago (days of the 64) and we had a meeting every month.

Wine and Win progs
by stuart bell
Hi All,
I have been asking about running my electronic chart software, a Win
prog, under Mandriva.
The following extract was some bad news that I received:
I don't know SeaTTY but I do know C-Map and you aren't going
> to get it running.
> Most WIN gps-software needs to access gps-devices directly

Can anyone shed any light here, any experience with car systems and Linux??
The software is C-Map www.C-Map. com.
It uses a USB GPS receiver.
Help!
