Possible LUG meet speakers?
by Jen Phillips
Jono Bacon and Ted Haeger are touring UK LUGs during the week beginning
17th April.
Ted is offering a choice of talks on "Linux Desktop Innovation at
Novell" or "Implementing Novell AppArmor"
Jono will be happy to talk about "On the Front Line: Convincing People
the Inconvincible" or "Building the Next Generation Linux Desktop"
Info on the tour can be found at http://jonobacon.org/uklugtour/
Would people be interested in getting them to visit? And is there a
suitable venue?
Hugs,
Jen

Meeting
by Frank & Jenny
If you think this is a little late I usually send and collect my Emails at weekend.
Arrived at Weatherspoons at 6.35 on the appointed Thursday and left at 7.20.
I had a copy of Linux User on the table so you could see why I was there, I also
walked all aroundthe pub several times and saw no glimer of Linux. Pity you
did not go, but it was not the place to hold a meeting there lots better.
A waste of time,
Frank.

Wooohooo, it's out!
The torrent is running...
I'm getting 970K/s to my server in RedBus :-)
and 40K/s to my house :-(
It would be quicker to drive to London and burn it to DVD!

OT: sort of....it's to do with money :-)
by Kevanf1
Well it involves computing..sort of :-) We have one or two
technically savvy members who also have contacts around the country.
Does anybody know where or perhaps who I could contact with a banking
security idea? We all know about the ATM frauds that are going on at
the moment involving such things as false fronts being put onto the
cash points. I have a very, very simple idea that would stop this
immediately - well, once it was implemented. But I do not know who to
contact with it.
Any ideas?

OT: message for Jen
by Kevanf1
Jen. Remember we were discussing the various Star Trek
episodes/series last Thursday evening? Well it turns out that Voyager
was in the same time frame as DS9 and The Next Generation. I asked an
ex Trekker :-)))
Sorry to everybody else for that very OT post but I had promised I
would find out and I don't have Jen's e-mail address.

Linux on laptops/notebooks
by Kevanf1
Interesting article here about getting Linux to work on a laptop
(oops, naughty of me, the manufacturers prefer the term notebook
nowadays). It's short but sweet..

Linux laptop on Ebuyer.com
by Russ Phillips
The following was on the Manchester LUG list. Thought it might be of
interest, since Simon said that he'd like to be able to buy a laptop
with Linux installed & working.
Some notes of caution, though:
- It doesn't say which distro it comes with
- It's a pretty low-spec laptop, with no wi-fi
- You can get MS Office with it, and save £3.52(!) by buying them together
- The eSys web site doesn't seem to know anything about it, and the
eBuyer site doesn't have any reviews

Dear all,
Ebuyer are offering a Linux laptop for £334.87 incl VAT.
Url as below:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN...
Like normal it doesn't say which distro, but possibly like last time
Mandrake on the cheap desktop they were offering, no reviews of the
system as yet on the site.

the Indian restaurant we are meeting at first? The one next to
Wetherspoons...
