Up or Under
by dave@staffslug.org.uk
Hello all,
Well.. It's been busy on the old list!
I see there's been something going on about top posters V bottom posters.
I'm thinking we need to reach a consensus on this.. So.. It's voting time.
I've setup a poll at:
http://www.staffslug.org.uk/forum_viewtopic.php?2.416
Place your vote :o)
Hope everyone is having a good new year

No problem - but the thread was becoming long (and depressingly
top-posted) while nothing helpful had been said.
I feel a 50/50 ratio of helpful advice to light-hearted personal
abuse of fellow luggers sets about the right tone, don't you? ;-)

Fwd: Hardware Upgrade
by stuart bell
Spent last evening upgrading my old PC to try to speed things up a
bit. As you can see from the photo it didn't go exactly to plan but we
carried on and made the best of it anyway.
As soon as it cools down I'll try to reinstall M2006.
Stuart.

100 members!
by stuart bell
I have just noticed that the Slug membership stands at 100. (Yes, I
notice these things)
Next meet is, I believe, at Dave's house. Let's hope he has plenty of
space! Although we can probably continue as usual and meet in a 'phone
box.

Apologies for the binary attachment, but someone on
this list could be interested, and the .doc does open
up in Abiword.

Modules
by stuart bell
Morning All,
I'm trying to get my usb wifi working in Vectorlinux. It's dlink and
uses the ralink rt2500 chip. When I try to use the w*n driver with
ndis it keeps telling me "invalid driver". I have copied the rt2570
module which works fine under pclinuxos but I simply put it in a new
folder named "drivers" then cd /home/drivers ls shows me it's
there. modprobe rt2570 does nothing!
What's wrong, how should I insert this module? The more I read on the
subject, the more confused I become!
Thanks
Stuart :(

OpenSuSE 10.2
by Kris Douglas
OK, i have decided that i will try SuSE 10.2's inteligent partitoner to try
and get it installed on this laptop...
...I simply love SuSE's new look and XGL etc...so i think its 100% worth the
risk and it will help develop my linux skill anyway. I am going to:
1. Try to make the curent partition layout more logical using Acronis Disk
Director (from the PLESK people)
2. Burn the SuSE 10.2 ISO on the slowest speed available for the DVD burner
on this lappy.
3. Test that the DVD boots ok in my pc that runs SuSE as default and then
attempt to not update, but re-install it onto that PC.
4. If the DVD works in my PC i will run the setup on my laptop and attempt
to configure the partitons, and if that fails i will come to here and ask
you guys for some hints :P
*If you want any info about my PC:*
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.8GHz
2048Mb RAM
150Gb Maxtor IDE HDD
NVidia GeForce 2 64Mb GFX

*If you want any info about my laptop:*
