An unanswerable question!
by Carl Struyk
I had been using LiveCD's without a problem - any I tried would pick
up a DHCP address and go out to the internet - no problems. Suddenly
they stopped working. No matter what distro I use now - I still
cannot access the internet. I tried getting an answer to this on the
ubuntu forums but they couldn't help!
I am picking up an IP address (via DHCP) with no problems - whether
I'm using wired or wifi (to an Apple Airport express AP which gets
it's own IP through DHCP) but cannot get online.
After reading something unrelated earlier - I thought about pinging an
IP address to see if I get a response. Tried pinging google.com and I
always get a response. I then put the IP address straight into
Firefox and got the page up. So, my issue appears to be a DNS issue
with every LiveCD. It's odd that it doesn't matter if I use wired
(straight to the router - a D-Link DSL 504T) or wireless through the
Airport Express AP > DSL504T.
To complicate matters - if I use my Powerbook (running OS X) with
wired or wireless - it works fine. Also, if I use my tablet PC
running Vista with wired or wireless - it works fine!
Can anyone suggest anything? In my DHCP settings on my router, it's
giving the DNS address as the router address. is this correct or
should it be the DNS address of my ISP?

OK, I'm giving my site a makeover/revamp http://www.cannon-linux.co.uk
Its a Joomla website (I think you've looked at the old one before?)
now I'm pretty good at the site stuff in general but my drawing skills
are worse than a two year olds however I might want a logo for the top
left on the large blue bar.
Theres a couple of things I should explain first, I have the logo
blank so the image needs to be overlayed/pasted onto the blank but in
a position thats relevant to the position on the sites blue bar. The
blank cannot be changed in any way either size colour or extension
otherwise it throws everything out.
To give you an idea of the positioning here is the theme producers
demo http://demo.rockettheme.com/ from the drop down box select
'Vortex' and you'll see the theme I have but with a logo/writing.
To be honest I'm not sure what I'd like, I do use my Avatar a lot but
I'm not sure it would go with the theme or look right. The site is
called Cannon-Linux but I don't want that wording to be displayed
anymore so really your help would be in two parts.
1. Come up with some design or wording
2. Produce the thing
You should be able to knock that out in 2 or 3 minutes :-)
If you want to give it a go let me know and I'll email you the blank
and avatar off list.

HTML help anybody?
by Kevanf1
Is anybody familiar with using Yahoo Groups? As in setting up
graphics etc to show on the home page? For the life of me I cannot
get a graphic to resize up to a decent display. I've got one graphic
that is great. so, I create a new template and drop the original one
on top as a layer. So far, so good the size remains the same. But I
try adding some text into the graphic (Yahoo Groups have a limit on
the number of characters you can use so I cheat by adding text into
the main graphic) and it's way too small :-(
Any ideas?

Hi All,
I just swapped my hard drives into a "new" box. Three drives with
three distros and a 10G windows partition. Linux all fired up
instantly but Win - what a disaster, stupid thing couldn't cope with a
hware change and immediately hid behind a bsod.Tried all that repair
and recovery nonsense but no dice. Had to reinstall so now it's
buggered the bootloader and i'll have to do that again.I've only got
two win apps, I must learn how to use Wine !!

containing a monthly reminder, and the wording was identical, appart from
