Remote Desktop

Hello, Question, I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and I would like to remote desktop to it and was wondering what the best approach would be? I've tried VNC, but it's just a black screen at the moment, so I think I might have messed something up there. Anyway, any suggestions are gratefully received. Dave
