Bostin' :-) Cheers Stuart I shall give that a go in a short while.
Once it's done I'll report back any differences it makes. Hopefully
it will enable the PC to shut down properly rather than get so far and
just hang.

Ok, an update. Sadly it didn't make a blind bit of difference :-( I
tried acpi=on and also acpi=force (this is what was actually
suggested). Neither did anything. I am looking for a BIOS update now
for the mobo.... I don't hold out much hope though.
