The fact that some of us are already giving our time, money, resources and knowledge to local community groups does not stop anybody from sending an old laptop to Nepal. Nor does sending an old laptop to Nepal stop you from helping a local community centre - set your mailer to ignore this thread, and get on with it ;o) Laptops are ideal in areas without electricity, as they may be run from battery banks, topped up by locally-generated power or sporadic national supplies. :-) As to the rest of this thread, I'm a bit puzzled by those who seem to wish the two-thirds world to not gain the technical knowledge needed to generate local wealth, and help them stand on their own two feet :-/
