Cheers Adam :-) that is fantastically thorough. I am going to go through the various options over this weekend bit by bit. I would have done it sooner but my main Linux PC (running Kubuntu 7.10) lost it's network connection. Everything else was fine form the router (including another PC). That turned out to be a faulty network card. Unusually, in my experience, it was a 3Com that had died.
