i think installing a distro on a usb stick would be your best solution.
install a distro onto the usb drive, some distros have this as install
option (fedora is one
of them) this means that whichever firefox addons or personal settings you
prefer can be saved, and
this usb drive can be used on any machine.

I'm upset by the claims that nearly every distro makes that their
version of the USB distro will work on any machine. The thing with
Linux is that there are a lot of us out there who are using PC's that
are so old they wouldn't even contemplate running Win 98 let alone XP
or Vista. They will not run a USB distro. This particular PC was
self built back in 2001 and, though old, does what I want...apart from
run a disro from a USB stick. It's not that important to me so I'm
not worried :-)
