if you want to change the channel on your TV... but yeah - pretty much
pointless other than that - but it doesn't detract anything at all.
Back when I had a Palm or a Zaurus, I used IR to copy contact details,
notes etc to other people's PDAs. Didn't use it very often, but it was
very handy when I did. On the Palm, I also had a program to test
infra-red remote controls :)
