I still have and use my old Psion 3a :-) It is an absolute marvel.
2mb of RAM yet it seems to be able to hold tons of data. I think the
company discontinued them because of failing demand. They, Psion,
used a proprietary form of portable storage which was highly annoying.
It was also hellishly expensive at a time when stuff like SD cards
and USB memory was just starting to drop in price...drastically. If
they had done the same then I reckon more people would still be using
the older Psions.

The problem with running linux on the psion is the fact it has very
little processing power, 18mhz to be exact, so with 18mhz and 8mb ram,
you can't really get that far in the ay of linux, the old operating
system (EPOC - now symbian) is still used today to an extent, and that
ran incredibly well on the device.
I still know of a few software developers working on the psion devices
as a workable platform, bust because of the 0% upgrade possibility,
appart from the Compact Flash socket on the back, it's not really the
best device. But what I like about it is the fact on the series 5, the
screen is so good, the resolution is really high, meaning making
spreadsheets and typing word documents is really easy.
