Well, all this free that, free this is great in principle and I agree
with it. But, I live in the real world and I wish to do things like
listen to mp3's or watch DVD's on my PC. Sure, ogg is a great format
and alternative to mp3 but show me a good cheap player.... Likewise,
DVD's, why should I have to fire up a Microsoft system to watch them
or, go into the legally grey area of having libdvdcss on my Linux
system?
I think the time will come when teh whole software patents fiasco will
implode on itself. There will come a time when there is a process
that is absolutely crucial to modern computing will need to be used by
one of the big boys (MS etc). But it's already 'owned' by another
intransigent company. What will happen then?
