Well, all this free that, free this is great in principle and I agree with it. But, I live in the real world and I wish to do things like listen to mp3's or watch DVD's on my PC. Sure, ogg is a great format and alternative to mp3 but show me a good cheap player.... Likewise, DVD's, why should I have to fire up a Microsoft system to watch them or, go into the legally grey area of having libdvdcss on my Linux system? I think the time will come when teh whole software patents fiasco will implode on itself. There will come a time when there is a process that is absolutely crucial to modern computing will need to be used by one of the big boys (MS etc).
