Ah, I didn't think I would have much to input on this thread mainly because I'm not able to attend meetings. Various health reasons..... But, funding :-) here I can give advice. Most of you will know I run 'Freeworld-Recycling' which is similar to the bad old US model Freecycle apart from the fact that none of us get any monetary recompense out of it; we don't get paid it's 100% voluntary. Well, it just so happens that I've recently gone into seeking funding together with my colleagues. These are the criteria: The LUG would need a constitution. This is easy enough to write and there are templates available. A LUG bank account would need to be set up. We have one with UNITY Trust because they deal with charities and none profit organisations and most importantly do not levy any charges for standard banking issues, i.e. running a current account. This would need at least two people to sign any payments. All meetings would need to be minuted and records kept. These may or may not be required to be produced by those offering grants. The LUG would need to form a proper voted in committee and hold an AGM. Now, that lot sounds a bit daunting but honestly, it's not. I've set up all of the above practically single handed so believe me, anybody can do it. As for grants. We've just had one for a little under £1,000 for new IT equipment. We are a totally online organisation so a good working PC is an absolutely essential piece of equipment for us. Any grants that are applied for may well need a supporting letter detailing what the grant would be for and when the money is needed.
