Hmm, intriguing. Have a look on linux for laptops, or what ever that website is called, sometimes there are informative comments on distributions for specific models.

Now that's interesting. Reboot works shutdown (This morning) failed
that's usually easy to fix normally I'd add "shutdown=poweroff" to
grub etc

The strange thing is the Ubuntu live cd ran on it on Tuesday, true I
had to leave it for 3/4 of an hour but now anything I stick in gets as
far as loading the minimal kernel on the disk (Not the proper one but
the one used for installations) and just sits there.
