The government love it because it helps them meet the international carbon
reduction targets.
The power companies love it because they get help to meet their carbon
targets that the government sets.
The installation companies love it because they get free land (your roof) to
erect their power station. It is excruciatingly expensive, but the
government GUARANTEES a return of 5 to 8% on capital by making the power
company buy the generated electricity at 30 pence per unit.
The house owner loves it because it enhances the house value and it provides
some electricity free when the sun shines.
BUT if you don't have it, ALL the costs get added to your electricity bill.
So even if they don't install it in your area you can invest the 10,000 and
get the government guaranteed 5 to 8 % return on capital. Beats GIC's.
Go for it! But don't expect me to be happy paying for it through my
electricity bill.
