boot>grub>menu.lst
Add it to the first line.
- it prolly already says acpi=on or off. just edit that as root and save.

Bostin' :-) Cheers Stuart I shall give that a go in a short while.
Once it's done I'll report back any differences it makes. Hopefully
it will enable the PC to shut down properly rather than get so far and
just hang.
