Hi Guys. Thanks for the input. Firstly, Lubuntu. Tried this over
the weekend (see my OP) it wouldn't play for some reason. Puppy?
Yep, like it and have used it in the past (about 3 or 4 years ago) but
not recently. This is a strong possibility.
The Ubuntu installer? I've gone into that, it listed the USB stick
(it's a 2gb stick) but it just flags up the error message that the
stick is not large enough? Yet the help files state that anything
over 1gb is fine. This is using the 10.04 CD. Yes, I am looking at
the right bit. Administration - Create Startup CD (is that clue? that
they have changed it since 8.10 when it said USB 'stick'). I actually
wanted to go down this route as it is the least harmful to a USB
stick. The Ubuntu start up disk used to create a live 'drive' but, as
stated, with persistence. It did not make use of a swap file. That
is pretty crucial because the swap file will soon eat up those read
write cycles on USB stick.
I'm going to give wait a couple of days and download Ubuntu 10.10
Then I'll se if that will play ball... If not it'll be Puppy probably
:-)
Cheers.
