Just managed to get it installed and working and Kris your suggestion was
superb. I'm running manjaro at the minute but it was in the arch repos. so
have a look in the repos of whatever distro your using I think the package
I installed us called gimagereader
I had to download some additional language files from here:
http://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/downloads/list
It worked pretty much 99% with only a few characters missing or slightly
out of place.
So there you go OCR for linux :)
