I have been moving to MS live for calendar and documents (its calendar
is superior to gmail as it can have fortnightly occurring events) and
i can get skydrive docs on my phone more easily then google docs.
Not keen to move to hotmail for my email so might just sort out my own
mail server on my server but then ignore it due to the spam it will be
more then likely filled with.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for so many posts this evening, last one I promise.
First of all, as I'm sure everyone is aware, Google have simplified their
Privacy Policy and Terms of Service and applied them universally to most of
their services.
There is one particular paragraph in there which basically says... any data
you submit into a Google service, although you still own it - you give
irrevocable ultimate rights to it to Google.
What I want to know and hopefully start a discussion about is:
A) Is that enough to turn you away from Google?
B) If you're a user of Google Mail, Calendar, etc... what alternatives do
you use? Particularly interesting would be self-hosted open source
solutions... but it is nice to hear about new/innovative upcoming websites
too.
In my opinion... I would like to move away from Google as soon as possible.
I do however need to find a setup (preferably open source) that mimics the
functionality of GMail, G Calendar... and allows syncing to mobile devices
etc.
