Kev,
KsCD pops up when i insert audio disc but plays 6 secs and stops
Kaffeine keeps playing but no sound.
If i open cd from home/dev it sees data.
All very odd as i just used the drive for new install so much be in
good order mechanically.
I have now installed PCLinuxOS. It seems very good as it has a
download/install facility for new software just by pointing and
clicking. It took only moments to get firefox, java, flash and mplayer
installed and running, excellent for those of us who can have problems
with ./confuse make && make a mess! It's the first real linux
alternative to windows that I've seen! (sorry Andrew)
I've had a real battle getting my pcmcia wifi card working, there's a
driver in mandy that loads automatically and stops the ndiswrapper
functioning. It's called bcm43xx and i had to learn to use ndiswrapper
and rmmod to get rid of the bloody thing-many hours of frustration.

I think the Kaffeine bit is the curse of sound output in KDE. I'm not
hot on it but I have managed to sort it on PC's of mine in the past.
In a nutshell, you may not be getting sound because KDE is looking at
using the wrong mixer. Does anybody have sound output experience on
here? If not I would sugest a Google search using something like
KDE+sound. Try using the Linux specific Google though.
