Ok, I'd heard some dodgy reports about Hitachi/IBM drives.  But
Samsung?  Nope, I will not touch anything made by that company.  I've
had bad HD's and other consumer electronics and without fail it has
had to go back.  Ok, I've probably been unlucky but the amount of
stuff I have tried by Samsung and it's gone wrong or simply not worked
at all, well... I have no confidence in their products.

So, it looks like WD, Maxtor or Seagate then :-)

Cheers everybody :-)
