Having chaired a charity before now, my experience is that without three or
four very committed individuals (Chair, Sec & Treasurer) + a few more
committee members you can come unstuck. I'd prefer to be a branch of some
umbrella organisation of possible for legal services, advice, backup etc. I
don't know if there is one - I've not researched it.

South Staffordshire Community Voluntary Action have been a godsend for
us. They went through all of our paperwork and simply demystified it
all. They offer legal advice (proper not hearsay as these are a
professional organisation) and can help with form filling. There are
equivalent organisations up and down the country including one for the
Cannock Chase area so there will be something for North Staffordshire
too.
