Debian would be fine - until this spring my mother had been running
Debian on a Toshiba notebook with 32MB RAM as her only desktop machine
for the past four years.
I've run Debian desktops with less memory in the past - their usefulness
depends upon what apps you actually _need_ to run.
Perhaps the question should be - what do you want to use the computer
for? - I suspect Debian will still be in the answer somewhere though,
it usually has been for me for the past decade ;-)
- Richard,
btw have you looked on e-bay for the RAM?
Now that's interesting. I honestly didn't think Debian would run on
such a small amount of RAM. Though, to be fair, I was/am thinking of
using DSL which is Deb based :-))) I suppose it all depends upon
which desktop I use, as Russ has said. I will admit to being a KDE
man but I like Xfce and Fluxbox. Gnome is ok but, akin to KDE does
have a large footprint and I really don't like that top tool bar. I
have a Dell 7000 in bits at the moment and just want to concentrate on
getting that up and running before I start installing on the Sony.
The Dell possibly needs a new (or at least working) inverter board as
the screen itself is fine. Thankfully I know a man who possibly has
some :-)
Yep, I've tried eBay for that memory.... the prices are crazy. I
shall keep looking though because you never know...
