It's more the teachers trust me! Still, at least in Staffs under the
recent (2nd) review school ICT techs are proposed a huge pay rise.
Perhaps all my e-mails were not in vain.
I could so easily be tempted out of retirement...... When I left at
the end of 2000 I was on around £14,000 before tax. I was second in
command of the department and had plenty of stuff on my plate besides
the usual core work. I was in charge of budgets for staff equipment
as well as overseeing technical requirements for the computer lab (120
PC's at that time) together will all sorts of A/V gear. I also had to
deal with hiring and firing, the guy above me did not have a clue in
the admin side of things. He also hated Linux with a passion and
often stated that he could never see the day when it was a viable
force over Microsoft. Back to pay...out in the private sector an
equivalent salary for my job would have been nearer to £30,000. Uni's
are like schools, they will not pay a decent wage.
