Decent quality solid state media should still last for decades even
if you write to it 24/7. I would have a journal on any writable file
system.

Yes, it does seem that the quality has improved. From what I'm now
reading :-) I think my knowledge was a bit stale.... but then,
nothing stands still of course :-)
