Yeah i'm talking about a physical serial port.
In response to "why not just add a port"....well.....because it means
buying a serial card...i'm a student...and therefore poor......ignoring the

Ok, I can understand that as I'm disabled and on a fixed 'low' income
:-( But, there are other ways of skinning a cat :-) You could always
ask (politely of course) if anybody happens to have a spare serial
card that they no longer use. You never know :-) Or, there's always
your local Freecycling/freeshare/Realcycle group. That's possibly
more of an outside chance but agian, people do give away some amazing
kit (I've had no end of PC's and am currently working on a nice old
server that was given to me.
Also this is good for future reference if i want to run management
scripts
for a *nix/*BSD from a windows box.
Very good point.... but if it doesn't work, then assuming you would be
doing this in a paid for position the company would be shelling out
the cash in a similar situation:in other words they'd be buying a
serial card. :-)
