In that case, I'd definitely ask on the OpenStreetMap mailing list [1]
and/or IRC channel [2]. I know there are people on the mailing list that
use laptops to record where they go when driving, but I can't remember
whether or not they were running Linux.
I know that GPSBabel can read NMEA - my GPS records logs in NMEA format,
and I use GPSBabel to convert them to GPX. If it can talk to your
device, then it might be just what you're looking for.
