Actually, was that thread so OT? I think it touched upon a social
aspect of open source. Open Source software is meant to empower the
individual, to allow wide spread use of software no matter how rich or
poor you are or how intellectual you may be. So, perhpas some of the
things in the thread (that upset me) could be likened to Microsoft's
business practices of lock in and exclusivity?

One thing about this list is that I've never read anything that was
intended to be offensive, unlike many other lists where the regular
flame wars descend into obscenities and personal abuse
