I'm intrested in giving bsd of some kind a go. I've heard lots about it but
not have the chance to try it

Quite co-incidentally I flicked a couple of pages into the latest
Linux Format. On the Distrowatch pages there is a new BSD version
that is only on a live CD :-) I'll take a look at it tomorrow and
post a link.
