Thanks for the replys guys,

I've had a look at the asus eee pc and at the moment its looking good. I have seen one of these laptops and saw how small it was, at first I thought the screen and keyboard might be a bit small but to be honest I would really like the portability of it and willingly sacrifice the larger screen. I'll have a look at the "el cheapo" laptop when I get a chance. I dont mind so much having to fiddle but I'm still not brave enough to start messing with the kernal.

I'll post back when I've taken the plunge maybe even photos, one problem with the eee pc is it will make my smallish male hands look like knuckle dragging caveman shovels hehe.

I've had an Asus EEE for about six weeks and very pleased with it. The screen and keyboard are a bit on the small side, but with plenty of ports and slots (VGA, SD/mmc, 3x USB, Ethernet, audio i/o) plus easily upgradeable RAM, it's a steal! If the 7" screen is a bit small for using for long periods eg at home, I guess you could always plug in an external monitor. Plenty powerful enough for web, video playback etc., and you can have any OS you like (except maybe Vista). I still can't believe how small the thing is - photos do not do it justice! Only problem is getting hold of one.

Now I'm just looking for the killer app for it - at the moment it's just used to rdesktop into work from my living room!
