Yes, Plone lacks _tight_ mailman integration - but that's not
to say it doesn't have any.
Plone's mailing list support is provided by Listen

which would probably suit most groups.
Mailmanadaptor

is a quick hack at combining the two services. XML-RPC means
that they don't need to be on the same server.
There has been interest on some of the Plone lists in
tighter integration - but Sympa would be a better fit.

have offered to host a Plone sprint for integrating
Sympa, should anyone else chip in with some sponsorship.
