Debian would be fine - until this spring my mother had been running
Debian on a Toshiba notebook with 32MB RAM as her only desktop machine
for the past four years.
I've run Debian desktops with less memory in the past - their usefulness
depends upon what apps you actually _need_ to run.
Perhaps the question should be - what do you want to use the computer
for? - I suspect Debian will still be in the answer somewhere though,
it usually has been for me for the past decade ;-)
