Speaking of wireless chips I seem to recall the Dell mini needed to be
connected to an ethernet cable to be able to download the drivers for the
wireless card in it as it needed a propitiatory driver.
As soon as it was connected then you fire up the hardware drivers tool from
the system menu and it sorts itself out.
If you have done this before you plug in the Ethernet you may need to reboot
first as it will still think that it can't connect.

Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look at that, Though I think mine has a
different wireless chip.
