I seem to have found some very strange behaviour involving Live
CD/DVDs on one particular PC of mine. I can start a live CD but
cannot get any internet at all. Yet, eth0 (there is only one network
card and it's built in) is supposedly up and running with a carrier
found. This has happened with both Sabayon and Ubuntu 7.04 so far.
It appears that the only anomaly I can actually find that might be the
reason is that the subnet mask is wrong. It should be 255.255.255.0
with both of these live cd's it is being set up as 255.255.0.0 I have
yet to try my Kubuntu live CD but I'm actually hopeful that this will
work correctly. The reason I say that is that both of the other CDs
are actually cover disks from Linux Magazine. If the Kubuntu one does
work (it's an official one from Canonical) then something very odd is
going on...
