Yes i've installed it on my development machine intel dual core
using the
x86_64 version.
I've now upgraded one of my drives on the main PC (this very one).
It's gone lovely on that drive with no problems.
Another cool thing about the installation is that you can click on the
process arrow and it shows the terminal process. You might have been able to
do this in earlier versions ?
You could in 10.04 but I'm not sure about any further back.
It feels quicker and looks slicker than 10.04. I never turn on the
Compiz
effects as I find it slows it down to much, I use metacity effects using
"Ubuntu Tweaks". What I have noticed is that if I turn on Metacity
compositing effects, Tuxcart has a noticable lag to it and is unplayable.
Where as in 10.04 metacity compositing didnt effect Tuxcart game.
My honest opinion on this? I can't really tell any difference. I
have Compiz turned on and it all looks exactly the same to me. This
could just be me though :-)
Another difference is that there is now a bottom and right edge auto
scroll
bars on most of the system apps eg "Disc Utility" which I sure were not
there before. I realise this is for the netbook users but its abit
distracting.
I know that feeling. I used to run most distro's on 800 x 600
resolution and this meant scroll bars. It's not nice.
The new floppy-to-the-right font is different, not sure about it yet.
Not noticed that one...
I have to install a DVD drive into that server to run the live
version. I was going to plug in a portable DVD drive but the BIOS is
too old to accept/recognise a USB boot. I knew the DVD drive that
will only read DVDs not CDs would come in useful one day :-)
