I personally hate the fact lugs are run on a county level. I may
have
mentioned before that parts of Wolverhampton for example are part of
Staffordshire. out of curiosity why did you put south in the title when
one of the meetings has been held at keele, alsager as well.
TBH When I joined a
couple of years ago I'm pretty sure it was South
Staff's but hey who gives a toss? I don't.
TBH this is where the trouble starts, wars have started for less, one
day "We are Yugoslavian" then the next "We are Bosnians" nine times
out
of ten its about ownership rather than title,
"Well there's more of us here so we should be called...".
For what its worth I think those who feel they need a more central
location perhaps they should set up their own Lug and build on that
community. I'm a member of numerous Lug's up and down the country and
have been for years. Most of them I don't even post to so where you live
is irrelevant. One of the key benefits of Staff's Lug over many of the
others is by its very nature it covers a county thus giving people on
the edges such as Cannock etc. The ability to be a member of a Lug when
no alternative is available this should be our main focus, the catchment
area for members is huge! Yet what is being done to attract people? Very
little from what I can see, how many members have websites? Do you
promote Staff's Lug on it? Or do you just think the Staff's Lug website
will do all the work for you? When you are out and about and someone
says "What's that Linux crap then?" Do you explain then say "But hey
why
don't you sign up to the mailing list I'm on".
Just because you cant attend meetings does not make you any less a
member in my book a member is a member and has as much right to what
happens as the next member its called community.
I nearly put £40 on a place to hold meetings why
didn't I? because I believe Staffordshire is too big an area and it
would have limited the numbers that could have attended. IMO the lug
needs splitting.
See this is another thing, most people are happy to dig into
their
pockets "Look people I've shelled out £40 for this venue I need 39
people to turn up and donate a £1 or is anyone who cant go happy to send
me a £1? There's no shame in asking for money its what makes the world
go round and if you end up with £57 then there is £17 to put to
something else. I myself donated a Laptop and other bits of hardware to
a certain Lug to be used for the benefit of the Lug.
As far as my site is concerned I paid for the elements because I wanted
them, I expect nothing in return other than the personal pleasure of
knowing I have contributed to Linux you all know the famous saying "How
can I contribute I cant write code".
Still humpy but happier today, more snow please.
Enjoy
P.S. there is another Survey on my site "Should Staff's Lug split"
