So why not put it in a case? I've ordered a Kindle, and I'm
intending
to buy a case for it. There are plenty available for the Kindle, I
imagine there are cases for the iPad too.
I have a wifi kindle, the cases at the moment are a bit expensive for what
they
are, I have seen one of the ones with a built in light in person
(someone else in the office had one) and it is heavy and way over priced at
50 quid and the non-light version at 30 is still over the top imho as it is
about a third of the cost of the kindle itself.
My top tip is that a jiffy bag makes a very cheap and effective slip case :)
I was looking at an Android tablet, but ended up ordering a 3G
Kindle.
I want it mainly for reading books, though I like the fact that it has
a built-in browser, and there's an SDK for it now. There were several
factors made me buy a Kindle instead of a tablet, battery life being a
big one. Free 3G is also nice, though :)
Free 3G is only for a very limited types of actions, eg you can't use the
3G for webbrowsing and syncing certain document types over whispernet 3G is
not free either. Also you can't selectivly turn off the 3G modem and not
the wifi so you end up with a reduced battery life while the radio
functionality is turned on.
I went down the wifi route and used the saved cash for a mifi 3g access
point so now the kindle and another 4 wifi devices can hook up to it and I
can pool all my mobile bandwidth charges into one place (apart from my
phone!).
Not looked at the SDK yet but have seen articles on how to get root on the
kindle (quite simple) and was pondering putting a lightweight ajax terminal
and webserver on it (bound to localhost) and then use the webbrowser pointed
at itself to get me a terminal in the normal interface :)
