I can see that being useful ;-) Am I right in thinking that you have a
laptop on board connected to the GPS, and that you need to have
real-time monitoring of where you are?
If so, it might be worth asking on the OpenStreetMap mailing list. Quite
a few people on there use Linux, and they know a lot about GPS units.
