Why are you not putting SuSE on? now that they've given up on reiser
it really good, thats what I'm using now openSUSE 10.2

It may be better for you the rescue feature of SuSE is the best I've
ever seen its all GUI and can do pretty much all the fixes itself and
as you've discovered its grub detection is very impressive.
