No, I don't think so in general. The assumption that free = crap may be an
issue with Open Office and other application software, because the cost (or
not) of MS Office for example is clearly transparent. When people buy a
computer however, the price of the OS isn't generally a factor in the
decision because it's not separated out from the cost of the hardware...it's
quite difficult to ascertain the true cost of a Windows licence to an OEM
for example. (again talking about Joe Public here and not a corporate
scenario)

Do you not think that one of the issues is that people assume because its
"free" it's going to be crap? I was really impressed and now I prefer
using
it to Windows. Considering that people have put so much time into
developing it unselfishly its pretty good!
