Them days are gone! Been stabbed in the back too many times now.
When you've got something to give away every man and his dog is your
best friend then when they have their grubby hands on, shall we say,
an IBM 600e that's worth £250.00 or an Alpha Server that cost £1500.00
new they immediately forget the good deed and shat all over you.
I'm hoping to get 150 Workstations in two or three months time a large
portion will be useless although may be good for parts, my initial
thought was "I bet someone can find a use for them?" then I thought
"Sod it why should I".
Not very full of the 'Milk of human kindness today'.
Sadly, I can verify all of that :-( Dick has indeed given away
possibly thousands of pounds worth of gear. Then the next day he's
spoken an opinion or answered a question in a manner not suitable to
the elite and been pilloried. Ok, let's get it straight, he was NOT
trying to buy favours or friends. This was good kit that was still
very useful so he offered it on a LUG which I will not say the name
of. He has then been teated in an apalling manner simply because he
didn't then roll over and play like the good little dog others thought
he ought to be - quite a few are like that, not me!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am truly grateful for
being given items from Dick. These things have included in the past,
hardware and software (full unopened and current boxed sets of SuSE).
In my book he's ok :-)
