Laptops are ideal in areas without electricity, as they may be run
from battery banks, topped up by locally-generated power or
sporadic national supplies. :-)
As to the rest of this thread, I'm a bit puzzled by those who seem
to wish the two-thirds world to not gain the technical knowledge
needed to generate local wealth, and help them stand on their

Richard. I am most certainly not against any third world country
having access to technology. I should add the best technology in the
form of Linux :-) However, as I stated in my original mail to this
thread I have very great reservations about whether any of this stuff
will actually find its way to those who need it. I have seen and know
of many scams that are very similar to this one. That is not stating
that it is a scam of course, it could be perfectly legitimate.
However, that little bit about not being a charity warns me right off
donating anything even if I could. This company is not regulated in
any way shape or form. If it had charitable status and a genuine
registered number then we could all make enquiries to ensure it was
right and proper. People could actually end up donating kit to
somebody who is floging it at his nearest market stall. In doing that
those poor buggers over in India don't get to see that kit even from
genuine charities because of some shyster.
No, sorry it has an unpleasant aroma to it at the moment...
