Actually Plan9 has a stronger link to GNU/Linux than to UNIX.
It's from Plan9 that we inherit all those lovely plain
text files in /etc that make admin so much less painful.
UNIX in the 70s/80s had a fair few of binary config files istr.

Now I didn't know that. I admit that all I've ever done is to skim
over stuff about Plan 9 (should it be Plan9 without the space? no pun
intended) and have never even tried installing it on anything. It's
just one of those things that I've filed away as looking interesting
and must take a deeper look at one day. It was the film association
that made me look at it in the first place. I'm a sucker for old 'B'
movies :-) Hey, when I growing up our horror was not stuff like 'SAW'
it was the Hammer Horror, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Fly
(original 3 films) and, of course, 'Plan 9 From Outer Space'.
