Could you post the output of:
glxinfo | egrep 'OpenGL|render'
lspci | grep -i vga
I may be able to offer some help on GPU performance. :)
 Another difference is that there is now a bottom and right edge auto
 scroll
 bars on most of the system apps eg "Disc Utility" which I sure were
 not
 there before. I realise this is for the netbook users but its abit
 distracting. 
I've just had a look - you can resize the window to make it bigger? I
guess it depends on your resolution, but with the window resized to
display without a requirement for scroll-bars, they disappeared
completely.
