Ok guys, I'm not going to take offence. I did the right thing and
moved away from the keyboard. Actually I went and did some more
catching up with my viewing of Stargate Atlantis :-)
Now, what I have been saying on here about various distro's simply not
working for me is purely becuase I can say it on here. Normally
without fear of having somebody saying RTFM... hmmm, Andrew :-) I
have read the * manual many times in the years I have been using
Linux. I started out with Linux in about either 1996 or 1997 I forget
now. I have read numerous books, magazines, wiki articles, Linux
forums you name it. I am the sort of person who can take in some
stuff and it works, it goes into the old grey matter. Other bits
simply do not sink in no matter hwo any time I try to go over it.
Hence my oft repeated comment nowadays of life is too short. Hey,
blame it on my age if you wish I am fast approaching 50 and there are
more important things in my life that sitting hacking a Linux kernel.
I'd rather leave that to the younger guys with far more energy than
me. This isn't an excuse and I am not looking for sympathy but,
please remember I'm disabled and there are days (weeks) when I can't
even get out of bed. On the days that I can I really do not want to
sit at a PC trying to understand why a distro will not load for me.
I'd rather get the message out that there are problems and I will then
move onto something that does work for me.
For the record I have had consistently good results using SuSE from
9.1 up to the last (not latest as I haven't tried it) version of
Kubuntu. I've even tried Ubuntu with it sGnome interface and I do
quite like it.
This is what I want form a Linux distro and what I suspect a lot of
others want. I want it to work for me without me having to faff
around and delving into various configuration files. Yes, I can do
this and have many, many times in the past. I have loaded modules
into the kernel. I don't want to have to do this anymore. Is it
wrong of me to wish for this?
So, why don't I want ot have to delve into the kernel anymore? Easy,
I don't have time. I'm too busy helping my community and many others
up and down the country to recycle stuff. I am heavily involved with
Freecycle and that takes up a lot of my time.
So, please forgive me for simply wanting to use Linux for what it is
designed for. That is runing a PC :-)
