Dont bother. There are some people that have been suffering from the same issues, and i beleive they have released an oppen source driver for the ipod, that allows it to sync with windows media player. But I don't know why he is so reluctant to switch to linux, we all know what the Mac OS is based on....

Kids, they just don't get it do they?

My son has just treated himself to a brand spanking new 80gb iPod.
Lovely bit of kit I will admit.  He comes to load iTunes on the PC.  I
am not allowed to run Linux on this one, I got massively outvoted.
So, he downloads the latest version.....DING! First problem arises.
The latest version of iTunes will not run on Win 2000 only XP and
above.  Ok, try one of the repositories with an older version.
Downloads an older version that is compatible with Win 2000....DING!
Second problem.  This iPod is so new that it will only work with the
latest version of iTunes.  Of course I have told him that there is a
very strong possibility that he would be able to sync the iPod with
Linux (probably Kubuntu or Ubuntu).  Will he listen?  Guess?

So it looks like I am now going to have to put bloody XP on a machine
now.  I hate XP :-((((

Bloody proprietary software...mutter, mutter!!!!
