So the LUG list has been pretty quiet this week! Starting to wonder what
you're all doing...
I've been wrestling with my dissertation project for the last few weeks:
ATA over Ethernet, iSCSI and NFS comparisons when working with Virtual
Box VMs. It's been interesting, to say the least...
But the pain is now writing it up!
So, why all the silence guys? Any interesting projects? :)

Hi Andy,
When I've finished my report, I'll hopefully have some time to write a
mini-variant with some of the test findings for the LUG website and/or
my own blog.

Yes, but not Linux related....yet. I've been working on my old
Series 2a Land Rover. I'm upgrading the brakes slightly with new
copper pipes and stainless braided flexi hoses. The Linux bit will
come much later when I install an onboard PC. Not for engine
management just purely for using in the back as it'll be kitted out as
a camper eventually.

It can I know. But, this is going to be properly cushioned against
vibration so should be fine. It's the only stuff this one garage I
use will have anyway and they swear by it. Hey, they didn't charge me
for it :-)

I would love another but I simply do not have the room to put it. I
already have to keep my 2a on some ground next to the road.... If the
government bring in this £2,000 scrappage allowance for cars over 9 or
10 yrs old I shall be able to get rid of the VW Golf and then get me a
new everyday car. The Astra can go then too and it will free some
space up.

Even better :-) It's a 109 inch Marshall bodied field ambulance.
It's a revelation to drive after so many years of modern cars. Not my
first Landy though as I did buy a brand new Disco back in 96. This
has so much more character but I still miss my Disco...

1. I'm writing some software for credit unions.
My problem is finding a time when my main architect
for the software, and the main sales guy for the
enterprise, are both free :-/
2. I'm running some workshops / social cafés on
technology & sustainability at Liverpool's
FACT Gallery, each Wednesday at 6pm [1]
3. I've set up a group to try & find hackerspaces
in the major cities of the region - please
join in :) [2]
4. I've moved from back-end tinkering of webservers
to front-end design. Also a move from just Plone
for most projects, to WordPress for quite a
few. Mostly doing freebies as favours to
community groups I know, but always interested
in paid work ;-)
5. Looking at a big project to help third sector
groups with their IT - will be talking about
it sometime soon, but not now.
6. Trying to find trainers & recyclers to get
involved in a new social enterprise.
7. Assembling workshops on GTD, and on
social media, both for social activists,
not VPs & CEOs ;o)
8. Looking for consultancy gigs.
9. Setting up a couple of new blogs I hope to
be starting at the end of the month - one
on organic horticulture, and the other
on howtos & software reviews.
10. Trying to get out to a few conferences
& network events. There are many exciting
things happening - it's great to talk to
people about them :-)
Other than that, just quiet times with the family.
and a bit of gardening & singing :-)

Ah, Kevan's ears prick up at the mention of horticulture :-) I
currently have the gardening bug again and am planting fruit
trees/bushes. I currently have a pear, a n eating apple and a cooking
apple and plum tree with one blckcurrant and two blueberry bushes to
go in over the weekend. Then the strawberries need to be planted up
in the baskets. I just hope I haven't damaged my fig tree (edible)
after getting the leaves burned (watered it then the sun blazed down
on it) the other day.
Other than that, just quiet times with the family.
and a bit of gardening & singing :-)
