Hi Stuart,
What Kevan isn't saying is that the fuss was caused because he
repeated some rumour that he heard about the behaviour of some
Windows software, using words like "woe" and "secret", without
making any effort to verify what he was saying.
Without letting the argument spill over to this list, very few people
'check the facts' before posting on mailing lists anyway. Years of
experience has taught me that most people see something on slashdot
ect, have an inkling that its not been posted to their mailing list
yet and 'bang it up there quick' before anyone else can.
When he was quite reasonably called on it and shown that what he
said was incorrect, instead of just admitting the mistake, he went
off the deep end and got upset about it.
(Note the commas and read accordingly) OK I will be gracious and
concede that, in hindsight, being able to read ALL the thread, it
could be said that the information Kev was repeating was flawed
however IMO the, "Shown the error of his ways", was not presented in
the manner set out the paragraph above.
Its dam easy to go look for information when you know what you are
looking for and a few members of Wolves-Lug seem to take great pride
spending time to find information to 'Nail you to the barn door with'
as apposed to finding info to guide a person in the right direction.
Obviously he has not yet calmed down and feels the need to
misrepresent again, since as far as I am aware no one was having a
go at him for "laughing at another OS" but instead correcting
misleading information. I don't think that anyone thought it would
be "funny" to do this either.
Hm, now I do need to tread carefully, I probably agree there was no
laughter about OS's
I also agree there was no 'laughter' at berating him, as such.
I do however IMO think one or two took pleasure in it!
I didnt see any flaming or personal attacks in the thread that Kevan
is talking about. He was simply called on passing along incorrect
information in a sensationalist manner, and if it got at all heated
that was because Kevan was unable to see the problem with what he
was doing.
Well I certainly did see some veiled personal attacks, maybe not many
flames but defiantly some 'burning embers' was tossed his way.
Just a couple of points for the record (Or Archive for that matter)
Have you noticed how I have not used the word *You* once? most flames,
personal assassinations and lynchings stem from the "You said", "You
are" responses I've manged to respond to all the points in this mail
and not the author. Simple rules of debate really which a lot of
people don't seem to know or care about. Some people do not have as
thick a skin as I do (Which you need for all those knives in the back)
hence they get more upset than maybe they should.
As for Wolves-Lug, I have been a member of that list for I think well
over five years possibly longer (I'm not gonna research to find out)
apart from the one odd year that I left to wander in the wilderness so
I know all the old lags pretty well, I've not said anything here that
I would not be happy to repeat there, a minority do tend to work on
the 'point scoring premis' but thats *Community* for you. :-)

Arch Linux is an independent i686-optimized community distribution for
intermediate and advanced Linux users. Utilising a Rolling Release
System packages are regularly updated and an ISO release is just a
snapshot to the stable packages at that time. So there's no need for a
fresh install the command 'pacman –Syu' upgrades the whole system.
