You probably need to configure Samba separately to perform user authentication against AD. You should be able to set "security=ads" in /etc/samba/samba.conf (or wherever it lives on Ubuntu). There might be a bit more config that's required depending on your environment (like if the machine is joined to the domain with "net ads join", etc.) but that should at least give you a bit of a starting point to google/check the docs.
